Curated by Alexandra Buffalohead, the exhibition Revitalizing Symbols will feature artwork by Indigenous North American Artists who incorporate revitalization in their practices through different mediums. The title of the exhibition reflects artists who, through their identity, are reviving traditions through language, land, and art for First Nations North American people.

This exhibition features the artwork of Andrea Carlson, Jim Denomie, Jaida Grey Eagle, Haley Greenfeather English, Nicholas Galanin, Briand Morrison, George Morrison, Chholing Taha, Jonathan Thunder, Gwen Nell Westerman, Sarah Weston, Debra Yepa-Pappan, and Holly Young. These artists incorporate revitalization through designs, patterns, symbols while influencing others, teaching communities and the viewers of their work.

This show is a culmination of the Emerging Curators Program. Since July 2019, Alexandra Buffalohead has developed Revitalizing Symbols through monthly cohort meetings with fellow emerging curators, a mentorship with Michelle Westmark Wingard, and meetings with visiting curators. We appreciate our exhibition partner, Artistry, an award-winning Theater and Visual Arts non-profit organization. This exhibition was made possible through a partnership with our program.
